Fat Rendering

Well I've recently started to play the long dark (only 30 hours so far), and I'm wondering why we can't render bear fat into a fuel source. It could be a harvestable item, and you could render it out on a stove/fire. You could use it for accelerator or in lamps, or to extend the life of a torch. It's also really good to fry potatoes in;-) You could also use to for the bow string, which would help decrease it's decay rate.

Interesting. So bear fat is a kind of preservative then?

Looking at this forum post (from a google search), there are a ton of uses for bear fat:

I think number 1 on this guy's list is what Mistawondabread is referring to:

"to condition and waterproof and treat leathers"

If it could do that, it can probably condition cured gut.

I would love for animal fat to make it into the game, it's one of those shockingly useful things in nature.

edit: oh, and kaynesyduin mentioned candles, and I +1 that every time it comes up.
