  1. I've been away from the game for a long time, but will buy the Expansion on the first day it's out. Everything in it looks exciting. The only mis-step, for me, is "The Trader". Not sure what it is, but if it's a person, I think that spoils one of the atmospheric gems of TLD's survival mode: the loneliness.
  2. I really welcome the survey's focus on Survival Mod. Regarding DLCs, which I would gladly shell out $$$ for, the most powerful experience for a Survival Mod person is "WHERE THE F AM I??!?" It's the biggest danger in the game. Kills faster than Interloper or DeadMan. While new Regions are great, a procedurally generated area would be ideal, even if 33% were unsurvivalable, and 33% were OP, the community would spread the seeds for the 33% "barely survivable", which would make the game perpetually challenging. Don't know if this is mathematically possible, but it would be worth the cost of the original game to me. That said, I would gladly plop down $$ for a DLC that gave me that moment of sheer terror in a game I've otherwise mastered. The lack of a Map UI is the single best 'feature' of this game, other than permadeath.
  3. Boy, you do live in a Tropical climate! Imagine it being dark until 10am, and then dark again by 4pm. That said, great list of suggestions. I'm sure you understand that many of the fictions adopted by the game are purely for gameplay / mechanic reasons. But a lot of your suggestions would also make for an interesting "mode" if it were available. And welcome!
  4. Feats are a bit weird in TLD; unlocked through the experience of play, they make they game easier. But the longer you play, the more you desire the game to be slightly harder. Perhaps some of the feats to unlock should make the game harder, if added to a game. Something like this would also allow salt-crusted veterans to electively make their Event games harder, without affecting the whole player base. 4DON too easy? Adde the following: "Chilled to the Bone" -5C feat. "Bad Body Odor" feat, where wolves can sense you from much further away. "It's not Scottish" feat, where all clothing and equipment starts at less than 50% durability "Weary bones", -10kg carrying capacity Anyway, just a suggestion; I've unlocked most feats, but never use them because making the game easier is never desirable to me.
  5. I've only earned the first badge, so far. The second eludes me because I have trouble negotiating the mines w/o succumbing to the fear AOE, even when DW is moving away from me. But over-all this is more joy than frustration due to mechanics. Perhaps my single favorite thing about this over 4DON is that isn't not on a real-life schedule. Last year I *cough* encouraged the cancellation of a dinner party so I didn't miss the second badge. (talk about messed up priorities). And as @jeffpeng said, I like DW because it isn't typical TLD, yet still within TLD. And similar to @BearIsland, I didn't notice the fires on the map until a couple of games in. Wow, talk about game-changer. Had a good laugh at my ignorance.
  6. Cannot wait to return to TLD for this. I assume the 2-weeks means we will not be compelled for daily play (like previous Halloween events); the adult in me thanks you!
  7. @peteloud Wow, badge be damned, sounds like you got a hell of a lot out of this event. As a two-badger, I rather jealous of the pleasure you derived. Good on you!
  8. Eew. Actual cannibal Shyia LeBouf.
  9. So, you think the crows are interested in the loot, and that's why they're circling?
  10. The general impression I got when I played TLD was that the rifle was the natural draw of the inexperienced LongDarker. I mean, who in real life would choose a bow for survival over a rifle in their first 10 days of falling out of a plane into the Canadian tundra? The mechanics to use is are pretty simple. But it's heavy. And ammunition is limited. But it's immediately effective without startup costs. So I think you're meant to cling to this technological solution to your wolf problem but then realize that it isn't viable in the long term. Instead, developing the skill, and learning to build a bow and arrows, is where the game leads you. It is the end-game weapon. Over and over the game teaches you that player-skill and renewable resources are the key to survival. I think the rifle is just there to help make that point. I'm not able to fit the revolver into the above theory. As mentioned, I don't like it because it's OP and skill-less to use. But I also do not like it because it disrupts the narrative above. I don't think you can beach-comb lead, but even without this the horizon on bullet exhaustion is beyond what most people consider a normal long game. So, I like your ideas about adding new mechanics to the rifle to add a bit of interactive realism. But I'd hope it would never come close to the bow because it would violate what I interpret as the spirit of the game. (IMHO). One of the great pleasures I take in this game is because of the strong narrative push to re-think how we play video games (running is punished, can't hop, pack-ratting is deadly, no goal other than to survive, technology is not better, etc). One of the mechanics I'd like to see removed from the rifle is Quick Scoping. If you have the object-close targeting dot, you can Quick Scope because the first position of the rifle is dead on target before it starts the swaying mechanic. So, no matter how tired, if you flick-fire, you'll always be deadly accurate. I'd like to see the initial ADS position as somewhere along the sway trajectory loop to eliminate this exploit.
  11. Ah, the old Moose/Bear switcheroo. Gets ya every time. Just love that you sat down for a nice cuppa tea when he joined your picnic.
  12. Ah, the infamous HRV lizard. Can't count the times I've lost my run do to its scaly hide. 😜
  13. About the only thing I'd really like to see addressed is the weird motion of transitioning to aim-down-sight (ADS). The pistol is particularly horrible, but the rifle isn't that great either. As for hold-breath: yes, this would be appreciated. However, I think it should just reduce the sway you're already experiencing via fatigue, not eliminate it. On that note, I do think it's a bit silly that you can fire a rifle with any accuracy when you are effectively shivering uncontrollably (zero heat). But I understand if that's a game mechanic choice. Aim while crouched, yes. Again, same as hold-breath: further reduce. Faster bolt action? Yes. I would go so far as to think that with zero skill the reload time could be longer with a chance to fumble to where you need to pick the cartridge off the ground. I personally don't like the pistol very much: weird ADS and far too effective. The rifle had some very nice limitations for game play. Generally, I choose not to carry a pistol because I feel it is OP.
  14. There are days where the AC just isn't up to snuff, and my last refuge is a howling blizzard in TLD.
  15. Sir, the interwebs do not deserve your level of sagacity, but it sure does need more of it. Can we clone you? For sure, the wording could have been clearer. In just reading the announcement, I would have my doubts. I do believe it is meant to be in the Winter's Embrace mode. Unfortunately, English can something be grammatically ambiguous. (e.g. "Police attack men with spears." . . . wait, just who is holding the spear?) Fortunately, there is a place to ask for clarification.
  16. Okay, I just confirmed you can do this on Stalker. Don't know about the other mysterious fire. I can't navigate the cave in the dark without a bedroll, and don't remember a way around that brush.
  17. Not a Loper, so take this with a grain: the long-rope fire is accessible without hatchet by hugging the left-wall instead of going through the brush, but there is no way back w/o the brush. So I think you'd need to take the rope with you. Then you need to descend from where the fire is. Note: I haven't done this, and the above is from memory. But that's what I'd try.
  18. Thank you so much. You've saved me a few hours of insanity.
  19. I haven't played since Bleak Inlet was introduced. So, first thing I'm doing is starting there on Stalker. I like to explore a new area, but I don't pleasure an exhaustive search to prove a negative. So my question is quite limited and simple: Can I reach the radio tower if I start, and never leave, Bleak Inlet? Please, I'm not looking for futher information than a Yes/No from the non-extreme Mountain Goat community. I don't want to know how. I just want to know if it's possible. Thanks. BTW: Timberwolves . . . Hole -- LEE -- Carp!
  20. You're right. I think a good balance would be that to do it in one run, you have to hit some of the more difficult points to hit all over the map. Radio tower in BI, Peak of TWM, Inside the Canning plant at BI. Etc. For those who want to make it easier: you can do multiple runs without having to surmount these achievements. This approach would give a nice voluntary challenge for anyone up for it.
  21. I thoroughly enjoyed this event. As a normal Stalker player, I over-prepped for the 25days, but just consider myself silly for doing so. The change in weather was a thrill. The search for syrup was frustrating, but in the end determining a real-life efficient way to do so, was actually enjoyable -- though not how I normally like to consider playing the game. If not for the guaranteed syrups, though, 25 wouldn't have been any fun at all. 10. 10 would be nice. Something you could get in a single long play-through. One thing I just like to call out as a wonderful aspect of this event: calendar independence! 4DON is tough because of real-life commitments. However, this event gave plenty of time to manage my calendar. Thanks again, Hinterland! You guys just keep doing what you're doing.
  22. As, I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm back after a year a way from TLD. Last night I played for several hours straight and kept thinking "I've never had a game that felt like coming back home, until this one." Little did I know it was really Hotel California! Played from game-time from something to day 16. Tried to quit-out at 2am local time. Like the OP, the "Quit" option was greyed out. Then I noticed that the typical events that cause the Hatchet to appear (save game), were not. Left with no choice I killed from the task manager. Logged back in to see where the last save was: Day 7 (might be where I started, I don't really know). Heh, ah well. It was fun all the same. I filed the bug with Hinterland before knocking off. So a word of warning to others, keep an eye out for the hatchet icon. Now my only conundrum is whether I continue with that game, knowing exactly what awaits me in two zones -- which is rather boring.
  23. Coming back after a year away, getting turned around in Mystery Lake and thinking "oh man, they changed the MAP!" A pleasant panic set in. Of course, they didn't. And I was being dumb. But what a thrill!
  24. Been away a long time. Heard about this event to come back and see the game after a year away. Like curling up to a warm fire . . . Thanks, Hinterland.
