  2. Are you guys considering some Patreon, or similar support? I would like to support you. Would this help in any way? Speed up the process.. And also, i am ready to pay for the new maps/regions. Otherwise i sould feel ashamed to get it for free :)

  4. I really like the concept of a photo mode for this game. Yeah, you can always just disable the HUD and take a screenshot, but having the process be in-game would be awesome. It gives you a reason to stop for a bit once a while and.. look around. Remember how beautiful everything is. And of course, you'd have a growing physical collection of beautiful/interesting/terrifying places or moments that accumulate as you survive longer and longer. Which is just an incredibly awesome and immersive way to document your journey through survival mode. I really want to get my hands on it. I also hope the camera is not too hard to find, so we can use it early, and often. . . . This reminds me heavily of Firewatch. It's also a game about a guy in the woods, and you get a camera you can use to snap pictures of the world around you as you progress through the game. But it always bothered me that you only get 18 uses throughout the 4 hour game. The Long Dark is immense in size, so i really hope we get lots of supplies for the camera scattered throughout the island. Or at least the trader is willing to give us some. Let's say that each region has 5 interesting spots. There are currently 15 regions, 16 with Mountain Pass That's at least 75-80 photos, and that's a super conservative estimate just for the maps. There's also transition zones, mines, cool events (auroras, sunsets, hunts, climbs, tales...)
  5. Yeah, true Personally I save flares for emergencies and only light them when i cannot afford to get into struggles For example; in my last run i fell through weak ice in forlorn muskeg twice in a row like a dumbass, so i lit a flare and went to mystery lake, that way i wouldn't get into a struggle which would have killed me because i was so weak and tired
  6. Pyroxene

    Tent-able

I really like this idea! Though I think they should at the same time keep the snow shelters, as they would be warmer than a tent.
  7. Yeah it's also an addition I'm very much looking forward to. I'm... curious... about the photography thing, mostly because I personally don't find it that interesting, but wonder if there's an angle I'm missing (no pun intended) which could still make it fun to explore.
  8. ❤️ speluker's. Also, there's a million flares in the region, enough imo to use some as light source to explore the mine.
  9. Kinda hoping for safehouse customization It feels like this feature will be the one with the biggest timesink, sincy you could make every base location in the game cozy with whatever they end up adding. And honestly I've always wanted my bases to look nicer. Right now i dump things on the ground in piles, because it's easy effective and convenient, but ugly I also hope there is some practical application to safehouse customization as well, not just decorations. Maybe a drying rack to guts or hides to cure faster, maybe crafting rugs to warm things up, maybe some containers for the mountaineer's hut, stuff like that.
  10. It was a long time ago that I played so it could have been removed, I am not sure.
  11. Avoid? Or Survive? Play Pilgrim (answer to both)
  12. Since I'm so close to the next stop on my route... I decided to wake up early (only resting for about 10 hours). I figured I could better spend those two hours of daylight by quickly prospecting through the Old Red Barn before heading off to Thompson's Crossing. I'm surprised I hadn't tripped over this poor soul in the dark when I came it. They had a torch that was in pretty good condition (~63%)... but nothing else on them. All things considered; I think it was time well spent. I was already starting to freeze to death by the time I had gotten to the nearby bridge. The wind was gusting hard and right in my face... every step was a bone chilling struggle. I had to stop off at the Church first... just to warm up a little. The sounds in here (from the heavy winds outside) sound like groans and growls... something's wrong with this place; gives me the creeps. Moving on. There's a fog rolling in now... but at least the wind had died down. I didn't find nearly as much for gear and supplies as I was hoping... but still it was nice to be able to unload everything I'd picked up between the Pleasant Valley Farmstead and the Community Hall. I wanted to take some time to prosect Thompson's Crossing properly (as well as take some time to repair some of the more worthy gear I've managed to find thus far)... Just a couple of food items... but nothing else of note here in the little picnic area next to the Church. I decided I would spend a couple of hours on repairs before starting to look through the houses. I just have to decide what's most worth the cloth (especially considering I'm heading to Timberwolf Mountain and those rumored cargo containers relatively soon). I went back inside the Community Hall to inspect and take inventory of my cold weather gear. I don't have a lot to work with... but I mended up both pairs of climber's socks, the fisherman's sweater, and the wool tuque. The boots were already in good condition from the repair I'd made the other day. The rest was good enough for now... I was hoping to have a lot of it replaced when I reach the summit of Timberwolf Mountain. As I said, my gear isn't great... but it would have to do. I heard the wind kicking up again outside. I decided to go out and have a look... Sure enough... another blizzard. Rather than rush to get further along the route, I decided I would hunker down here at the Community Hall for the night. I had more than enough food on hand to waste a couple of days along the way if need be. With a few hours to while away, I went back through the Community Hall and found that I had neglected all the drawers and cabinets in the kitchen. It was a good thing I'd gone back for another look around. I ended up finding a little more food, but more importantly, I found two packs of water purification tablets. Counting the one's I'd found at the Camp Office in Mystery Lake... I now had the means to prepare 12 liters of drinking water in half the time. This additional stopover has more than paid for itself. 🤭 The storm finally broke sometime after dark... but as I mentioned, I had more than enough food to afford to just bed down for the night (rather than push onward on a night hike).

  14. Perseverance mills, my beloved. There has been a prediction going around about this for a few years now, actually At the end of episode 4 we see Astrid reaching perseverance mills with her boat through the coastline. So, if perseverance mills is a playable region in episode 5 (which is very likely) then it will also be coming to survival mode after the release of episode 5. The same thing has happened with other regions, they are added into survival mode after their initial release in wintermute, so the expectation is that this will be the same for this upcoming region. Also, if you look at the survival mode map, there is a very convenient gap on the right side, on the coastline next to desolation point. Perfect spot for a new coastal region, and perseverance mills is a coastal region.
  15. @BugReportEnthusiast I don't disagree with that... it is a good option. I only mean to say that I didn't think it was always the best option, depending on the circumstance.
  16. Well, since we have to pick one thing... I'll take the immersion-oriented bits. The tftft maps are daring to scout and live in and I really love them, but you offered us a lot of new immersive things along with those : see-through windows, and more buildings that you enter without zoning in, carcass harvesting animations, and finally hand-coverings (and yes, what a technical breakthrough) ! These things, as much technical as they are (and they are, I can understand that), made the game even more brilliant ! You had a very nice and balanced game, you made it even more immersive, in ways many of us thought impossible. Bravo !
  17. @ManicManiac A snow shelter is applicable in any situation, and a total of +27c warmth (snow shelter + bear roll) will save you from most blizzards, except mornings on bleak inlet or forsaken airfield. A windproof fire is better than a snow shelter, and a shelter is better than anything else, but in a blizzard it's not always easy to find them That's why i said snow shelter, it's always an option, and it's a very good one.
  18. Here's a pretty good wiki that is (mostly) accurate to what's in the game to date; I would consider this background to be canonical: https://thelongdark.fandom.com/wiki/Will_Mackenzie
  19. There is some good sound advice in this thread already, but I thought I might add my thoughts as well. I'm not so sure that a snow shelter is always objectively the best option. I'm sure it's favored by some... but I personally don't really think it's necessarily the best solution. The snow shelter is definitely a convenient one (especially if set up in front of a hollow tree or a windproof firebox). However, I find that it's usually the better option to simply seek any nearby shelter/cover to hole-up in and wait out the storm. This way (assuming you have at least mid-tier clothing... we can generally keep warm in any "indoor"/interior of a shelter (including the back of nearly all shallow caves, interior caves, and inside buildings *where we have an inside/outside loading transition) even without a fire. Most times even if we need a couple more degrees to start warming up... we can also then hop in a bed or use a bedroll in most cases to make up the difference. I think folks will find that "shelter" can even be as simple as a spot where we can be shielded from the wind. Tucking up under a low bridge (for example - the one between the town of Milton and the Paradise Meadows Farm), this can give you a place to both get cover from the wind, but also a shielded spot for a fire. Hollowed out trees are also a good spot to get a campfire set up... it's mostly protected (except for if the wind is blasting straight at the opening). For those who really enjoy exploring and seeking out all the little nooks and crannies... there are also many many small niches in ridgelines, crevices, tiny little cave-like nooks where we can get good shielding from the wind with enough room that we can sometimes get a campfire setup with us (assuming it's deep enough that we can squeeze in with it). 🤭 If you have enough sticks on hand... you can even nurse a campfire and just tank the storm by a tree. But again... I'd posit that usually the most ideal answer to a blizzard is to just find a nearby structure with an interior transition (or the back of a common/shallow cave). All this having been said... which is the "best" option I think really just comes down to each particular situation, what you have to hand, and what your personal playstyle is. As long as you find a way to survive the storm... then it's not a bad answer.
  20. Honestly I'm a bit confused... That's the map I used but checking the wiki list says I've missed about 6 of them in coastal.. I'm actually there now just looking around randomly.. I've been using the same maps for all the other areas too ,but still missing about 19.. they don't tally with wiki.. I didn't mean to sound like I was asking you specifically, I know it's a big thing . I just wondered if there were other maps because these seem to be the only ones I can find on Google. But thank you for the help😊
  21. Tell me where you are, I'll tell you where you need to go! Big project otherwise, to map out the whole world.
  22. Not specifically for ZoC, but with a bit of practice you can light a fire just about anywhere if you can find a sheltered spot. Trees, rocks, and cliffs will do quite nicely; just pour on the fuel and pray the wind doesn't shift!
  23. Honestly, the loot refresh. I'm also excited for the wildlife spawn refresh; anything to make a play-through more random is always welcome by me.
  24. The best way is with a Snow shelter and a bearskin bedroll. Other ways to survive a blizzard are: Find shelter (cave, building, etc) Light a fire in a windproof spot and throw some coal on it Hope that it lasts less than 3.5 hours and just wait it out (don't actually do this, you're gonna die) Make sure to drink birch bark tea while you're freezing your ass off in blizzards so you last a bit longer before dying. Optimally you can get another like 15 minutes of life out of it with hypothermia, or 40 minutes without it (napkin math) Also carry a stim, and/or a prepper's pie. Both of these give you condition, which could save you
  25. actual things that make sense..CANADIAN wise...that aren't on Great Bear.. 1. outdoor rink or arena 2. coffee shop 3. grocery 4. a range
  26. I agree with @UTC-10 and @Looper: if there's going to be anything like a nightclub, Perseverance Mills would be the place for it. Milton might have had a bar at one point but it probably burned down with most of the other buildings; all that booze is very flammable .
  27. @conanjaguar Well, it was my first fade-out in literal years, that's true. 😋 It just goes to show, that mistakes and bad luck can quickly prove fatal for a run. I may have pulled off some wildly risky stuff in the past... but this time, I just pushed my luck too far. But when mistakes and tragedy strike... it's as much a chance to learn and grow as it is when we pull off what seemed like an impossible stunt. In both cases, I think it's great to share that with folks.
  28. You know it baby! I'm actually more in the camp of "it's not that big of a deal really" rather than the "you blew it up, damn you all, damn you all to hell" when it comes to the delays, and I hope that that came through in the comment. I work in software (albeit a long long way away from the games industry) and the idea that it turns out that a time frame estimate ended up being way off is ... not exactly a big shocker. Weirdly enough it turns out getting that stuff right is hard, and that's not even as hard as, you know, actually making a good game, and this is a very very good game indeed. So there you go Cheers!
