I have actually seen something like this IRL.

Up in the Northern Western Australia, I have seen a tree that has grown up through a rock formation, that was 100,000 yrs old and actually split the rock as it has grown, and then had engrossed the area around the rock. It was quite a site. Was like the bottom image not the top . .
