Why does everything have to run through STEAM?

Those fucks banned me because I disputed payment for the Day Z alpha because they advertised it as an MMO and clearly it not. Anyway of course now I can't get a STEAM ACCT yet I tried to make the humble bumble purchase for my laptop. Of course after taking my money then it routes me to a fucking STEAM page

Why does everything have to run through STEAM godamnit?!
