False arrow strikes

Been training with the bow in preparation for a bear hunt by doing some deer hunting with the survival bow and getting much more proficient lessening my dependence on the rifle thereby saving those precious cartridges. In the process, I'd say I've gotten fairly decent at lobbing a ranged shot which occasionally results in an instakill, but often I see what appears to be a strike as there is blood spray and the deer bolts away, but when i get to the impact point I typically find a broken arrow and no blood.  Also sometimes I get the blood spray and find an intact arrow on the ground with a blood pool in the snow but no tracks when the deer runs away?  Anybody else have this happening in their game?

Very common.  Seems to indicate a glancing strike happened.  Animal took no damage and is not bleeding, but you do get credit for a hit as far as weapon skill is concerned.
