The Long Dark Sandbox **May 2017 Test Branch** [OPT-IN, FORUM PASSWORD, SPOILERS]   05/19/2017

      Hello community,

As we did with the December 2016 Sandbox Update, we are implementing a TEST BRANCH for The Long Dark's MAY/JUNE 2017 Update, FAITHFUL CARTOGRAPHER. This reflects the fact that we have a huge diversity of players on a variety of hardware configurations, and as a small studio we just can’t test them all!

The idea here is to provide an early version of the next update, about a week or so before we’d like to launch it officially in the Release branch (i.e. where you are currently getting it), so that we get some extra time to find bugs, crashes, and any other issues before it goes lives for the rest of our community.
        >>> IF YOU DO NOT OPT-IN TO THE TEST BRANCH, YOU WILL NOT GET IT. I.e. You will not get the Test Branch build "by accident". This should help keep spoilers to a minimum. Here on Official Forums the Test Branch Discussion subforum requires a password to access. The password is: test_branch
      Some details. READ THESE CAREFULLY:

      * The Test Branch is for STEAM ONLY. It is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
      * The Test Branch is full of SPOILERS. If you don’t want to see what’s in the next update, stay out of the Test Branch and all its discussions.
      * The Test Branch is a tool for us to find issues with Work In Progress features. We’re primarily looking for feedback on bugs, crashes, and any major balancing issues.
      * When reporting on bugs or issues, please use the appropriate TEST BRANCH sub-forums on Steam and in our Official Community. DO NOT DISCUSS TEST BRANCH FEATURES outside the Test Branch sub-forums. Those posts will be moved or deleted.
      * When reporting on bugs or issues, please use the posted bug submission procedures. This will help the development team filter the feedback, eliminate duplicates, and in general ensure we can act on the feedback in a more timely fashion.

Our hope is that this new Test Branch process will allow us to ensure we can continue to put out stable Sandbox updates well into the future.

We’re very hopeful that the people who choose to opt-in to this Test Branch will approach this as a way to help ensure the updates are as smooth and stable as possible, and not use the Test Branch discussion as a forum to lobby for or against certain features or content.

As always, The Long Dark is a community-informed, not community-driven, project. We look forward to enlisting your help in identifying whatever issues we’ve missed in our own internal testing!

For more details, please check out the TEST BRANCH discussion forums [SPOILERS!] http://hinterlandforums.com/index.php?/forum/81-test-branch-spoilers/ (See password info above for access)

      Thank you!

Double-clicking food items

24 posts in this topic

All those hours of playing TLD and I haven't discovered this before - I can eat food items and satiate my thirst by double-clicking on them, respective on the water container in my backpack. Oh, that little joy I feel now, everytime I eat and drink in the game... no more moving the mouse here and there, no more aiming at buttons which are situated down at the right on the screen... ^_^

Yeah, I used to enjoy hearing all the different sound effects my items made by spam clickig them, I got food poisioning cause of that and died. And now when even double clicking tools it makes that windows fail sound and ruins it for me.

Glad it makes you happy though, I can live without the spamming sound effects.

To avoid confusion - I am clicking on the food in my inventory. So I can see the condition before eating something.

I also double-click. :)

Perhaps this is a bug...but I'm NOT complaining- if something is ruined you can drop it and when you pick it up you can still eat it!
Maybe I'm just brave- or stupid- but I almost never get food poisoning.  And I have a LOT of reishi tea. I have avoided starvation several times like this.

If you find something raw that is ruined...a salmon by the boats near the lighthouse in DP, for example, take it!  When you cook it the condition will go way up.

And I do exactly the same, but from time to time I find myself eating rancid decoy...

The double click function isn't a bug, rather part of the interface that's there to use as you wish. :) In the new Clothing menu you can quickly take on or off items, or equip matches from the inventory, or eat something. But yes, watch out for the spoiled food!

no- the picking up ruined items and being able to eat them is a bug.  You can't eat them if they are in your inventory.

You know how you can choose to Take (LMB), Eat (Spacebar) or Leave (RMB) food items? Any chance that the spacebar utility could be added for clothes as well? So if you find a new bit clothing you can immediately wear it without going into the inventory?

I don't know of any specific plans for what you are suggesting, but it's interesting. I would say that with the new Clothing system we're hopeful players spend time with it so they understand the utility of each item of clothing and the advantages or trade-offs that come with them. For this, the "Paper Doll" menu is pretty important. But your idea is noted! :)

I don't think it would make sense with clothes because they can't be repaired at 0%. Wearing them wouldn't offer any benefit.

Eating 0% food will save you from starvation, you'll get food poisoning at the worst.

I get that about the clothing menu. But especially in the early game, or on Interloper mode where clothes are much fewer and farther between, you find a new jacket, say, and you know it's an improvement on what you have on already. It'd just be useful to be able to skip the inventory completely in that situation.

I like the new paperdoll interface, but I still prefer to avoid menus and stay 'in the game'  if at all possible.

Nice find with the drop-eating, didn't know that either. The fact that cooking food raises condition by 50% has been around for a long time though. That's a feature for sure.

;)

I've had this too, would be nice if double clicking items could be a toggleable option. Its really lame that you can get food poisoning and die from misclicking.

It's amazing how easy it is to click the wrong icon when you're not paying attention ;)

There seems to be some frostbite protection from ruined clothing.  Of course I could also be imagining that. :)
