Bear running in place

So I'm making my way up to the summit in Timber Wolf Mountain, and at about 1750 North, 900 East I scare a bear who runs into his cave, and having hit the wall starts running in place.

So is this a cheap kill? Or will he turn around and beat 7 shades of crap out of me if I hit him with an arrow in that area that would give him the itching, burning sensation?

Discretion being the better part of valour, I passed it up and carried on towards the summit ( a goal which I failed btw, I am now back in the hut licking my wounds, and repairing my clothes).

I've watched many deer and wolf run in placer stuck on terrain.  In no way did it stop them from reversing direction.  Most likely if you attacked the bear it's direction vector would change, and it would be able to move again.  Pretty much the same as if the bear were minding it's own business on a plain and you shot at it.

Whenever I've placed a shot on a "stucked" animal, they don't change direction. AFAIK they are easy kills. Never seen a bear stucked though.
