  1. So I’ve been wandering around in PV for the last 4 days, trying to find the way to get to TWM… I’ve literally gone in a complete circle around the region and haven’t found it, and am currently at Thompson’s Crossing. I’m stumped . Directions would be greatly appreciated, spoilers or no spoilers .
  2. It's been unclear to me for a while now--in the opening sequence of EP 1, as Will and Astrid talk about the past, Will says "I miss him too." In another episode I cannot remember for the life of me, she is on the phone in her office, and she looks at a photo of her and Will that seems to have a child in the foreground. I apologize for the lack of references--the youtube link uploads are hellish on this site. The first reference is in the beginning of episode 1, and I can't find the second ref anywhere. DO they have a kid? And if so, what happened to him? Theories and further references appreciated!
  3. A few days ago I arrived at Broken Railroad and the first thing on my list was to clear the area of all predators so I can roam and map the area without looking over my shoulder or constantly carrying a torch that blinds me every time the sun is out. So I did. But every day I go out I encounter yet another wolf. I haven't actually counted how many I've killed, but I think it's safe to say the number is close to 20, and that's just the area around the lake and the shed. I think I had a similar experience in other regions, but can't remember where right now. From what I understand the timeframe for a wolf spawn is around 10 days, but does it apply to every region? Or some areas are just wolf-cursed? 🤔 Is there another factor?
  4. At the moment by my count, there are about 5 different things that we refer to as a 'cache' and boy it's really getting confusing. Rock caches built by the player from stones as storage containers Memento caches stored in lockboxes and other hidden places (loose boards, rock cache etc.) clued by memento notes Hidden supply caches cylindrical containers buried in the snow found via orange transponder gameplay Prepper caches randomly¹ generated underground rooms accessed via an aboveground hatch with a wheel Prepper's Abandoned Cache a permanent location underground in Pleasant Valley accessed via an aboveground hatch with a wheel, not subject to randomness There are also the Tales Bunkers that are found via blue transponder gameplay, located underground and accessed by hatches with a lever (not a wheel) that are buried in the snow. I don't think we generally refer to these as caches, and I don't think the game does at any point either, thankfully, but given the similarity with prepper caches, there is still plenty of scope for confusion! For my own sanity and clarity I wanted to write out this disambiguating list. I hope it might be helpful! As a community of Anglophone players, do we want to come to a kind of consensus on how to refer to these things? Agree on some names that don't use the word 'cache'? Or is that too difficult? @Admin I expect you are very reluctant to change the names of things in-game, but have you encountered this issue yourselves? Any ideas to help us? 1. not completely randomly, but you know what I mean
  5. So I found a note saying that there is something hidden at the broken lighthouse at the very top, I'm guessing the flare gun but I've searched it over and over and found nothing. Is there even something there? The note mentions firing it at midnight, does it do something? Is there anything more to it?
  6. I've been running some experiments (another post coming later) on fishing, and, perhaps I've never paid attention to this before, but the fish I'm catching range in condition from 91-100% Why would I catch any fish that wouldn't be 100%? It hasn't started decaying yet. Perhaps it is slightly bruised/damaged? Thoughts?
  7. When I go to campcraft on my radial menu I have the option to put down a cooking pot or a can but i can't put a skillet down with the radial menu. Why? Is this a bug? Or was the feature not added yet?
  8. This suggestion popped into my head for no reason last night while I was sleeping… I literally dreamt (dreamed 🤷‍♂️?) something along these lines. It did not go well, to put it mildly. What is this suggestion, you ask? Harbinger Difficulty “It’s not just that you’re not part of Nature’s plan. You are an annoying stain that she is trying to wring out of a dishcloth.” Starting Gear: None. No clothes, no can, no nothing. Loot Distribution: 10 packs of matches in the world, maximum. Aside from that, no more than a dozen man made items (food, clothing, meds, etc.) will spawn per region. There will be ONE bedroll, ONE lantern, ONE cooking pot, ONE heavy hammer, ONE prybar, ONE hacksaw, ONE mag lens, ONE firestriker, and ONE toolbox spawning across the entire world. Natural Resources: Each rose hip bush, acorn patch, reishi mushroom, piece of birch bark, and cattail has a 1/10 chance of spawning. Sticks, branches, limbs, and stones with also be cut by at least half. Each sapling has a 1/6 chance of spawning. Wildlife: Deer spawn with the rarity of moose. Each rabbit grove will have one rabbit. Replace all normal wolves with Timberwolves, which will be everywhere, with aggression, damage, and spotting range even higher than the maximum the settings currently allow. There will always be an aurora-juiced bear on the map you are in. Not just any bear… the Old Bear. Fishing effectiveness is drastically decreased. Weather: Blizzards and fog all day, every day. Temperatures never rise above -20C. The only time you will get clear skies is with -50C windchill. At night. During an aurora. Oh, and did I mention the glimmer fog? Enjoy . Stats: All meters drain at one arrow above normal (so four-arrows down cold is a possibility). Condition damage due to hunger, thirst, cold, and fatigue is doubled or even tripled. Hypothermia pretty means death in a few seconds. A full 10 hours sleep is impossible because of the accelerated hunger and thirst, so the most condition you can get back per night is about 10%. No condition recovery while awake.
  9. Hello fellow Explorers I was thinking about Glimmer Fog. Is that stuff real? In some posts around here and elsewhere it was declared to be somewhat gimmicky and yes, it kinda felt like magic at first, uhm, glimmer. 🙃 But this is TLD, it never went to far with gamey magic, right? So I thought about it and remembered that there is a phenomenon called St Elmo's fire. And I'd like to share my findings (from Wikipedia 🤓 ). Since I feel that Glimmer Fog certainly feels at least inspired by it. During a St. Elmos fire luminous plasma is created by a corona discharge. Some weird corona stuff is happening for sure in our little Great Bear World. As I understand it, this plasma requires some kind of spire, a ships prow or wings of air planes (which we ave quite a few in FA tbf) to form around. It's said to be a blue or violet glow around said spire, that often comes with buzzing sound. It's more like on steroids in TLD, since it's, well, everywhere, but besides that, the description kinda fits. What do you think?
  10. I noticed last night that after crafting a bunch of Fire-Hardened Arrows for Ptarmigan hunting, that after two kills with a single arrow, it breaks. I'm not sure if that's the expected durability of these or not, but that seems like a huge durability hit for small prey. I also had a stack of regular arrows at around 47% that are all breaking upon impact with the next shot when hitting the target. I thought the durability loss from hitting the target was less than that of hitting a rock/ice, which is around 25% damage, so I'm a bit confused. Anyone with any kind of feedback or experiencing something similar?
  11. 🍕 What is favorite type of pizza topping 🍕 yes the spoiler tag was intentional
  12. Since the wiki hasn't been updated with the new food items yet – has anyone been able to tell if the the new ingredients are best stored outside or inside? m
  13. As the title, since I downloaded the update today, the game doesn't launch. It opens a black screen but never gets to a proper loading screen or the disclaimer.. I wondered if this has happened to anyone else today?
  14. Today I noticed that the improved firestarting is no longer listed among the upcoming features of the tales from the far territory. Is it really no longer a part of the roadmap? Because it would be kinda unfortunate that a feature so promising was abandoned because of the time constraints. I don't even know how it was supposed to be improved, but I still feel like I missed out on a better core system.
  15. So, I've started a new run recently and was postponing my trip to forsaken airfields. I wanted to craft everything and gain skills before venturing there in hopes that if i don't cross the map the region technically wont be "active" and loot won't spoil. Does it work like that ,though? Or will I find a bunch of ruined clothes and food once I finally go there?
  16. This update seems to heavily favor 'gathering of new stuff'. 1. Look through the crafting menu to see if the 2 new bows are there. If not, begin searching for them while gathering revolver variants, Miner's flashlight, skillets, ptarmigans, unique recipes, cooking ingredients and revolvers as I explore the world. 2. Try out the new cooking recipes 3. Try out the new fishing
  17. I saw a youtube video recently - in the last few weeks - that was information and maps on where to find interloper-essential items since the v.2 update. It was in Korean, I think, or or possibly another language with an alphabet I don't know, and had maps annotated in English that I could pause the video to look at. I'm not able to find it again, even searching all my history. It may have been linked to here on the forum, but if so I can't find it searching. It might also have been linked or mentioned in a Wonzandonly stream. Does anyone know the video I mean, or who a likely creator might be?
  18. Has anyone else experienced this? It seems to be very recent - perhaps in the past week or two. I use Arch Linux with i3wm. I've noticed this behavior is very common in many games and other full-screen programs, but it was never an issue for TLD. So I'm asking here to see if perhaps a recent update has changed something that swapped TLD into the "other games" category.
  19. However you define "stress" in the game, what is the area you feel the most relaxed (least amount of stress)? For me, I believe it's the Ravine. No predators, plenty of game, wood, birch bark and caves.
  20. Good evening fellow survivors, players, enjoyers and developers! I think many of you already know, but the game's menus strugle whilst the game is natively running on Linux. I have the aching question, is it possible to fix this, whilst not switching to proton? My laptop is pretty much a potato to run wine so the game can perform as it should. In advance i already thank everyone whom replies and tries to help, and i wish you all a pretty nice day/evening. Krisztián from Hungary.
  21. Reading through @Admin’s latest posts, they seem more… alive, I guess is the best term. Did someone new take over that position?
  22. Dose anyone know roughly how many transponder caches there are per any given region? I've only played for about an hour with the Handheld Shortwave and I found one cache in the forsaken Airfield. That got me wondering what the range was on the radio? I was also curious how many downed aircraft there might be?
  23. I've always loved watching and hearing stories from family about trappers and the lives they used to lead. It is sort of a dying occupation however, and quite frankly I'm not a resourceful enough person to be one in real life, so I figured that I could do it in Canada simulator, the long dark. HRV has been my chosen region, as it is almost void of manmade structures (except the new bunker), and is quite plentiful in wildlife, and already has some established snow shelters as bases along the line. I was just wondering, as I set up for this adventure, if anyone has any tips for it. I made a little route on a map, and the new bunker would be my home base as it has (perhaps spoilers ahead) a workbench, and is in a really great location for doing rounds through HRV. I plan to kill deer and Bears with Vaughn's rifle for food, as well as snare rabbits for supplementary food and gut. I am doing this on my ~55 day run in stalker difficulty, and am gathering gear in the ML trappers cabin to transport through MT to HRV. I have got technical backpack and moose satchel as well as the rifle sling to further decrease the weight of Vaughn's rifle (but I'll bring curators rifle just to put on display). Thanks in advance for any advice!
  24. After hopping onto the game today, I wanted to see if Signal Void had a badge associated with it. After checking my badges, I found that I had already unlocked it. I haven't completed the Tale yet, though I believe I'm on the final step. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this bug? I believe a similar thing happened with the Darkwalker challenge being permanently added to the game, where I was given the Archivist badge without completing it, before being removed by a later patch. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this or not? Have a good day!
  25. I just read in the Known Problems that if you find and interact with or take items in a "Signal Void" bunker (before getting the Transmitter at the Airfield) it will no longer be "find-able" and thus will render the final bunker unavailable. Well ... I did find one of the bunkers and looted it, slept there overnight, etc. It sounds like I'm going to have to start over to actually finish the "Tale" ... yes ??? .... SIGH ....
