  1. This topic has come up in other threads too, but I wanted it not to get lost, so started its own thread. I do see the point of having to finish the harvesting task and animation to open and dress a carcass initially, in order to get closer to the meat. Yet, if I'm setting out for a larger harvesting task (e.g. a whole moose for 3-4 hours), when blizzard hits after the second hour and I cancel the remaining task to run to shelter, I believe some of my work should have yielded resources (both from a reality and gameplay perspective) - and I should not be having to start over. [btw, I'm really enjoying that I can experience the environment, e.g., getting dark, snowfall, during the animation!] There is an obvious-looking workaround to set out multiple, smaller chunks of harvesting, so that less is lost if cancelled. With the length/shaky camera movement/"too explicit" nature of the animations this seems less of a fun way to experience TLD I think... [Yeah, I'm a wuss, not denying, while very much welcoming the immersion, this change also immediately altered my behaviour to try harvesting in as few steps as possible, and/or do it in a dark cave with smaller game/looking away during] I'm not yet 100% decided what option I would suggest as best (therefore the thread to learn others' perspectives), but I believe the current situation could be finetuned. On microharvesting - which is somewhat related: I agree with the intention (if there was one?) to somehow limit the possibility of cooking 100 g chunks to level up cooking quickly. (although I found that tedious myself, and rarely resorted to it). In general I would love the option to split / cut / (+merge if same condition?) continuous types of resources into smaller (larger) entities. (e.g. to carry some flour and oil with me). Even if there is a minimum size for a piece of meat to yield cooking experience (0,5 kg? 0,25kg?) / partial experience based on size (?) Thanks in advance, if you choose to contribute your thoughts!
  2. Greetings, everyone! The recent game awards got me thinking how excited other gamers get about them and how I can never relate because, even though there's a lot of truly great games out there, I don't have a very diverse library. I have my tiny little pile of games I hold dear and play over and over again. I rarely get into something new and it's usually rather small games. So I present to you my own categories so we can find out which places our beloved Long Dark would fall on and what other games the TLD fans enjoy Proposed categories: 1. Most played games (h) 2. Best lore, plot 3. Games I wish to forget just so I can play them again 4. My go-to games to unwind 5. Most esthetically pleasing games, best atmosphere 6. I crapped my pants playing these 7. Best storytelling Okay, I think that's enough. I hope you find it interesting! Can't wait to see what all of you have to say
  3. How do you copy (or paste) when writing in the daily log? I tried ctrl+C, but it doesn't do anything.
  4. Hi! So I’m new to The Long Dark, and just finished the first episode of Wintermute. I heard an acoustic guitar instrumental song playing at one point that was just too good and I can’t find it anywhere despite my best efforts. It played after placing the pearls on Lily’s grave and on my way back to the Grey Mother’s house just as I was walking along the road. I watched someone else play that part and a different song played, so I think it was a randomized ambient track maybe? It was just acoustic guitar, that’s it, no orchestral instruments, nothing else. It was very folk-like. I don’t think it was the instrumental version of the intro song..but not sure. Anyone have any ideas whatsoever? It would be so appreciated!! Thanks!
  5. It’s been very sparse on the updates for the DLC. Is this an issue with Nintendo on the business end? Or a technical issue from the programming end because of decoupling, etc.? I know the Switch isn’t the most money making platform for this game, but a more tangible update would be very appreciated.
  6. I collected a golden key in the mines, but I don't remember which key it is. It doesn't open the Foreman's Doors so I believe it's another key. Is there an option to see which key items I've collected. Its not on notes, it's not on collections, its not on picked items. Does anyone remember the name of that key?
  7. So...I noticed this tonight, and I think it's the first time I've ever seen these conditions, Gorged and Nourished. Nourished: You feel sustained after eating a meal. Gorged: You feel weighed down after eating a meal. I didn't notice anything considerably different while having these, and only stumbled across it after needing to patch up following a surprise Bear/Wolf attack outside the mine. Anyone with info?
  8. On Ps4, just got DLC and updated to 2.25, and I go to skin a rabbit, wanting to leave the hides curing while I continue hunting, figuring I'll gut and fillet it later. And the whole rabbit disappeared. The hide is in my inventory, but the rest of the carcass is just gone. all the meat and guts vanished, because I skun it first. So I tried to take meat and then leave the unskun or gutted rabbit, and it vanished too. I've lost three rabbits, because I tried to just take one thing at a time. Just happened with a ptarmigan too. gonna try quitting to my last save and see if its still a thing. UPDATE Shut off the game entirely, restarted and updated ps4, went back in and loaded my old save, went out and hunted three rabbits again Skun the first rabbit, got the hide and the carcass appeared in my inventory. Skun the second, got a 2nd hide, but no carcass. Skun the 3rd, hide, no carcass. Dropped the first carcass out of my inventory: IT DISAPEARED TOO I dunno what to do, gonna try to start a new game and see if the bug is still happening.
  9. Okay, we know from the Nov dev diary, ZC will be where Langston Mine is. This sign points towards Immutable Hesitation which is currently blocked by rubble. What do you think HL will do to give us access to this new area? They could either clear the roadway or the railroad track. My guess would be the RR track - the collapse doesn't seem as bad as the road.
  10. Where do you think the transition will be? I'm guessing Conductor's Dropoff. It's a named location and looks out onto an open location. There is one other "overlook" but it's not named and looks more blocked off: Then there is the rope-climb (with no rope, I've added it for illustrative purposes). Makes sense this would go up the Mountain Pass region. Still begs the question, how do you get to the top to attach the rope? I'm guessing HL will add the rope when they add the region.
  11. I haven't yet done the Tales bunkers, and have a few questions: I think I've read before (but cannot find it now in the forums), that if you visit the Tales bunkers "too early", then they might not work properly - or something like that. - What does "too early" mean here? If I have the radio from FA with me, and visit them, is that OK, or do I specifically have to visit them during an Aurora, when the radio is powered? - What are the consequences if I visit them "too early"? Is my whole Tales busted and need to start a new run? Hopefully someone can clear it up - thanks in advance!:)
  12. Perhaps not the best place for this question, but maybe someone knows cool books similar in atmosphere to The Long Dark. The same loneliness, silence, icy winter, quiet apoclypse and finally: hopelessness.
  13. Am I just dumb, or did anyone else think they got more rest for less with the "improved rest" benefit? I only just read that it only affects the amount of condition restored while sleeping.
  14. It is known that 30 days are given to complete the whiteout test. But what happens if you don’t have time to collect everything before the 30 days expire? Will the game continue, but only with a constant snowstorm? Or will a black screen appear with the words “you lost”? What will happen?
  15. Venture guess at what the reward will be? I'd love to get a pickaxe to be able to mine coal with!
  16. Will there be 4 Days of Night this Halloween?
  17. I have noticed that maple syrup spoils very quickly. I decided to look up the spoilage rate of syrup on Wiki. But I discovered that in total you can find only 6-7 bottles of syrup in the game world! But when I went to the Russian-language Wiki, I read that bottles of syrup can be washed ashore by the sea. I still don't understand if maple syrup is a renewable resource?
  18. How convenient do you think it is to play the PC version of Quiet Apocadips using a shempad when you can play with a keyboard and mouse? It seems to me that this is very convenient when you walk around, loot, craft, etc. And when you need to fight off divots or hunt, you can immediately grab the mouse. I played a little with the gamepad, about 5-10 hours. in principle, quite comfortable, especially if you lounge on a chair. One more question: I have never noticed that the gamepad exhibited feedback in the form of vibration during the game. No shots, no injuries, no animals. So, is there any gamepad feedback at all in the PC version? I use an original xbox x gamepad with software installed for it on Windows.
  19. I know that to keep meat for a long time you store it outside, and for certain prepackaged items its better to store inside. But what do I do with the meals you cook? Where should I store pancakes, rose hip pie, ptarmigan pie, etc? Outside or inside?
  20. With the recent September dev log, the end of the Long Dark has never felt so near to me, but with the potential end of major content updates in the next 2 years, I was curious how modders thought? Especially with the potential of mods being supported in the future, are you excited for major updates to stop if it means allowing easier development, and support of mods over the long term without major updates changing aspects of the games code, which may outdate mods. Additionally, since I honestly don't know much about modding, has the recent separation of story mode and survival made modding easier? Been getting really interested in modding, but I'm also really interested in what you all may have planned for the future! Anyway, hope everyone has a great week!
  21. Even in the trailer for the third part, I noticed two strange tabs:
  22. You come across a tape player and one tape and there's a message, clues, creepy static, some stranger beckoning to you and as you follow the clues you find more tapes, having to focus on survival in the midst of a web of intrigue, Will you find the stranger that's recording the tapes? Or are you following mere ghosts that have long been dead?
  23. Looking to buy another copy of the game as I suspect the dlc won't come to switch until 2024. But I'm hoping I can pick up the game on sale, any idea how long I may need to wait?
