  1. Fishing lures decrease your odds to catch fish, by increasing the maximum wait time to catch a fish. Equipping a lure increases how much time you have to spend waiting for a fish to bite. (+20% for a simple lure, +50% for acorn or casing lure, or +75% for wire lure) In the update video for part 3, Katie (Kate?) said this: "these two items can be added to tip-ups or regular fishing lines to increase your chance to catch fish and encourage larger fish to bite" But for the past 9 months we've had several hotfixes and a major update, and fishing lures still continue to decrease the chance to catch fish instead of increasing it Is this a bug, or did you intend for this to work this way? Because there are 2 options here, and both are very silly: 1. This is intentional If this is intentional, then this decision was probably made to balance out the increased odds of catching rare fish. But, this makes no sense. Rare fish do not contain Vitamin C, and they don't carry any special benefits, so they are strictly worse than catching regular fish. (Only exception being the burbot because it has a ton of calories but this is balanced out by the goldeye which is a tiny fish and an underwhelming catch) So, if this behavior is intentional then it's a really bad decision that makes fishing lures completely useless in regular day to day fishing. 2. This is not intentional If this is not intentional, then why on earth hasn't it been patched out yet? It's a serious issue that completely removes fishing lures from play, and it has been 9 months(!!!) since the feature released, with multiple hotfixes and updates going live in the meanwhile, and nothing has happened to fishing lures. This situation is literally just Acorn Coffee all over again, which is very frustrating to me.
  2. I was once attacked by a German Shepherd, but that's all. What about you?
  3. Apparently, there's a plane crash in the Mystery Lake. Was this always here? I have never seen it before.
  4. Dear Hinterland. I would like to know if other old versions will appear in the time capsule? Like those that came out before v.119, or versions that came out between v.119 and v.236 (the same updates that updated the interface added Coastal Highway and Pleasant Valley)?
  5. I like to play long runs on Interloper, and one of the challenges I set up for myself is to collect everything in the game on the collectibles screen. So, notes, polaroids, cairns, buffers, etc. It's a worthy challenge that takes a while to complete. I've only done it once before. Buffers have always been the toughest part to complete. At least cairns are static with known locations. Buffers are really frustrating. Always my last part to finish. The way the used to function was that you just had to wait over and over for auroras to spawn new buffers, and it was only one per night. It was maddening to try to collect them all, and sometimes I'd be camped out at a location for weeks or even months to get all of the buffers from that location. Somewhere along the line, perhaps recently, an update changed all that. Now, theoretically, you are able to spawn multiple buffers during each aurora by simply going outside and coming back in. Yay! This works at most locations, and I was able to clear all buffers from a location many times. Got all 5 buffers at the Credit Union in one night, same for Hibernia, same for the Rural Store. However, some locations still don't play nice. One such location is the buffer at the FM Radio Tower. I've been here for nearly a month, seen 12 auroras, and EVERY SINGLE TIME it's the same buffer. It's infuriating. I have it memorized at this point. "He wasn't kidding. This old marsh goes on forever. Swallow me right up." Every time I see this buffer I want to bash my head into my keyboard. Since there's no door to go out and come back in with to spawn new buffers, I tried the nearby cave. But when I enter, come back out, and go to the laptop, the buffer is completely blank. No text. Does anyone have any idea wtf is going on with these buffers? It seems like a wonky game mechanic that isn't functioning properly. It's inconsistent and really frustrating. I've looked everywhere for info that may help, but found nothing. If there's a trick that anyone out there knows, I'm all ears!
  6. Are the bunker DLC? if not then how do I find and get into them I looked them up because I needed to find a surplus of rifle ammo and found something about a "Bunker Beta"
  7. Does anyone know the piano music that plays on the title screen of Perilous Constraint because is goes so hard and I just have to listen to it on loop fr
  8. just started a new run and spawned in broken railroad need help on info about rifle and revo spawn location
  9. Please add polar bears to this game I think it would be pretty cool to have polar bears in this game, it fits the theme of the game, my idea is, some regions would have a possible rare polar bear spawn (kinda like the moose) but even harder to find. it would be stronger and more agressive than the black bear and you could craft something usefull out of its hide maybe a coat with almost no reduction of sprint speed, (it obviously doesnt have to be that) but i love the idea of finding a polar bear in this game Just an idea, maybe its stupid... Give me your opinions tho, do you think it would work?
  10. Is the rifle spawn at broken bridge in desolation point still guaranteed or is that before redux? or am I looking in the wrong cave perhaps the custom practice game I had just didn't spawn it? but I think it's guaranteed that a rifle WILL spawn in each region or am I wrong?
  11. Does anyone know is there a TLD wallpaper that is filmed from a singular place and it's just a time apse of that place (like one in game day) in wallpaper engine? If that can't be found then a another cool thing would be the same thing as I mentioned above but the time of day in the wallpaper would be synced to your system time. I have tried to look by my self but with minimal succes
  12. Can someone tell me what the point of the steam tunnels are in survival mode because I really don't know.
  13. Has anyone done the maths on the number of loose mountaineering ropes vs the number of empty attachment points? In my long game, one of my personal goals is to take every loose rope and attach it somewhere, but I haven't been super methodical about it. e.g. in Timberwolf Mountain in my run there are three loose ropes, which I thought was plenty, but there are four empty attachment points, I think. Spoiler map of Timberwolf Mountain empty rope spots My guess is that over all the regions there are not enough ropes to fill all the attachment points. Just wondering if anyone has tried? Are there always the same number of ropes, or are some RNG?
  14. Supposed to have "excellent physical protection" but it only has 4%, which is the same as the rabbitskin hat, and it has no warmth. Some other purpose?
  15. I haven’t been able to find the cache for a long time (the one shown on the map)! I found a note about this cache in a ruined house near a farm in the Lonely Marsh location. I couldn't find this cache, so I started looking for information on the wiki. It said that the cache was in a tree stump. I searched all the stumps, but didn’t find the hiding place! Please send me a screenshot of this stump against the background of the swamp, so that I can find it. Thank you in advance! :3
  16. Greetings, everyone! The recent game awards got me thinking how excited other gamers get about them and how I can never relate because, even though there's a lot of truly great games out there, I don't have a very diverse library. I have my tiny little pile of games I hold dear and play over and over again. I rarely get into something new and it's usually rather small games. So I present to you my own categories so we can find out which places our beloved Long Dark would fall on and what other games the TLD fans enjoy Proposed categories: 1. Most played games (h) 2. Best lore, plot 3. Games I wish to forget just so I can play them again 4. My go-to games to unwind 5. Most esthetically pleasing games, best atmosphere 6. I crapped my pants playing these 7. Best storytelling Okay, I think that's enough. I hope you find it interesting! Can't wait to see what all of you have to say
  17. First off, I hope Somebody caught the song reference…. Secondly, what do we have remaining?? I forgot how many drops there were supposed to be. Or was it just supposed to be within 12 months but no specific number of drops? Looks like we are still in need of a cougar, trader, base customization, third region and third tale? Is that the end of the recipes for the cooking system? I can’t believe we don’t have shepherds pie or canned ham and eggs! The UI appears to hint at can recipes, has something about this been confirmed or mentioned elsewhere? So, still remaining?
  18. This topic has come up in other threads too, but I wanted it not to get lost, so started its own thread. I do see the point of having to finish the harvesting task and animation to open and dress a carcass initially, in order to get closer to the meat. Yet, if I'm setting out for a larger harvesting task (e.g. a whole moose for 3-4 hours), when blizzard hits after the second hour and I cancel the remaining task to run to shelter, I believe some of my work should have yielded resources (both from a reality and gameplay perspective) - and I should not be having to start over. [btw, I'm really enjoying that I can experience the environment, e.g., getting dark, snowfall, during the animation!] There is an obvious-looking workaround to set out multiple, smaller chunks of harvesting, so that less is lost if cancelled. With the length/shaky camera movement/"too explicit" nature of the animations this seems less of a fun way to experience TLD I think... [Yeah, I'm a wuss, not denying, while very much welcoming the immersion, this change also immediately altered my behaviour to try harvesting in as few steps as possible, and/or do it in a dark cave with smaller game/looking away during] I'm not yet 100% decided what option I would suggest as best (therefore the thread to learn others' perspectives), but I believe the current situation could be finetuned. On microharvesting - which is somewhat related: I agree with the intention (if there was one?) to somehow limit the possibility of cooking 100 g chunks to level up cooking quickly. (although I found that tedious myself, and rarely resorted to it). In general I would love the option to split / cut / (+merge if same condition?) continuous types of resources into smaller (larger) entities. (e.g. to carry some flour and oil with me). Even if there is a minimum size for a piece of meat to yield cooking experience (0,5 kg? 0,25kg?) / partial experience based on size (?) Thanks in advance, if you choose to contribute your thoughts!
  19. After finding the "secret lab" with the "machine", I fully explored the observation room and finished the tale. I came away scratching my head though: What was the purpose of the machine? Why did Rudiger put it there? What was he hoping to achieve? Were we lead there to get "another piece of the puzzle" without fully understand what the end-game is? I guess I need to go through and re-read all the logs/books/notes/etc. and see if I missed something.
  20. How do you copy (or paste) when writing in the daily log? I tried ctrl+C, but it doesn't do anything.
  21. I collected a golden key in the mines, but I don't remember which key it is. It doesn't open the Foreman's Doors so I believe it's another key. Is there an option to see which key items I've collected. Its not on notes, it's not on collections, its not on picked items. Does anyone remember the name of that key?
