  1. So, I don't know if this is my crappy memory, confusing surroundings or what but something feels not right HRV is my least visited area, because, you know, It's kinda boring, the ice caves are tedious and I always get lost in them going in circles and wasting paint trying to mark my way. The only exciting thing about is the mysterious fire. I don't know the map by heart because I always get too excited to see smoke so I sprint like crazy passing everything by, hitting loot spots and not paying too much attention to my surroundings. Even though I've been through there a few times I still hope to find someone standing by the fire. I just have to be faster this time, to get there before they leave 😅 Alas... This time wasn't very different. I arrived through Milton, went straight ahead to the cliff, and saw smoke straight ahead of me on the other side of the valley "hmmm, I remember it being more to the right...nah, nevermind" I took a similar route, to the right, up the rope, left, bushes that block the way, a cave, and just when I thought I'm about to see the signal fire the clearing turned out to be empty Please, put my mind at ease, I was so sure this is where the fire used to be
  2. If it can go wrong, it will go wrong. Let’s see how that applies to TLD. 1. If you eat sardines, you WILL get food poisoning. 2. If you have gone between the Spence Homestead and the Poachers Camp twenty times, on the twenty-first time you will get lost and exhausted, and then fall through thin ice. Five times, 3. If you absolutely MUST get that fire started, every attempt will fail. The next time having a fire actually start would be the worst possible thing that could happen, the fire will start with no problems. What else can we think of?
  3. I've recently started playing interloper and want to suggest a change when lighting objects such as torches. Please can we make it so you don't actually use a match if the process isn't completely finished. I'm constantly using a match by accident because I'm holding an unlit torch, so I can fend of wolves but then go to pick up a stick and move slightly whilst doing so and then instead of picking up the stick I start to light my torch. However I don't hold the button down and finish the process because that's not what I want to do, yet I use a match. It's never been an issue for me in the past because I usually play easier survival modes, yet on interloper every match counts. What do others think? Anyway that's my suggestion. I love the new DLC and have so far had hours of fun. Keep up the great work 😊 @Admin
  4. So… I may have found Reishi mushrooms. Found: On a tree stump in sparse pine forest, southeast US Texture: Leathery and rigid throughout Color: Dull red to orange on the cap; stem is very dark purple or brown; underside of cap is white. Smell: Smells like mushrooms you’d find in a grocery store. Some pictures below.
  5. Was wondering… how long can we live without fire? Toilets/soda for water, only canned food… not for long I reckon 🤔
  6. Greetings! As of today, I was able to complete the "Escape The Darkwalker" challenge without using any runes (besides the final, "banishment" rune). It is an extremely stressful challenge, and I wish to share my hardships, as well as give any tips to those who wish to complete this challenge themselves. First of all, the challenge is simple: Complete the "Escape the Darkwalker" challenge without using the "Lure," "Ward," or "Dispel Fog," runes. You can still use the green campfires of course, as you didn't place or make them. This means that, whenever you aren't at a campfire, the Darkwalker is going to be chasing you down, making every decision you make, and time spent traveling to the next campfire extremely important. Here are some small tidbits that I learned whilst playing, and some tips to help! -Run as little as possible, you have a finite amount of Energy, as you can only sleep for about 4 hours at each campfire, if you don't make water or food. Be sure to make as much coffee as possible, and use the stims and energy drinks you have sparingly. I recommend saving your stims for late in the challenge, when you have little to no energy left, and need to rope climb to access Milton, climb out of Hush River Valley, and access Timberwolf mountain. -Never overburden yourself, you don't want to spend extra energy when walking. This will also keep your walking speed rather quick, and start climbing rope quickly. Keeping yourself from being overburdened also helps in the next tidbit I learned. -Even after you collect all 10 journal pages, the Darkwalker is still slower than your walking speed, even whilst exhausted (if your not overburdened.) Likely, the thing to end your run will be obtaining the rope to climb down the Ravine Falls and reach Bleak Inlet, as in all of my challenge runs, that rope was missing, and I needed to find one to attach to it. Other than that, that's all I got. This challenge gets extremely stressful once you need to get through Broken railroad and Hush River Valley, and I wish for everyone who attempts this challenge: Good Luck! It is possible! (The map display's my route, that I poorly drew arrows upon. )
  7. So I’ve been wandering around in PV for the last 4 days, trying to find the way to get to TWM… I’ve literally gone in a complete circle around the region and haven’t found it, and am currently at Thompson’s Crossing. I’m stumped . Directions would be greatly appreciated, spoilers or no spoilers .
  8. I have been thinking a lot lately about Subnautica’s Time Capsule mechanic. For the unfamiliar, when you beat the game, you get to put 8 spaces of items into a “Time Capsule” that can spawn in ANY other playthrough by any other player. It adds a quasi-multiplayer touch to the game. Anyway, it would be neat if we could do something like this in TLD. Those little SV caches are just begging to be Time Capsuled, but they already have a purpose. So… when you die, you can choose to add your corpse to a central database of corpses (or place a cairn on the map), up to six of which will spawn in another player’s playthrough depending on difficulty. Of course, this assumes that the dead player is online at the time of death, and that other players are online when a when they start a new run, generating corpses with the rest of the loot table. Anyway, you may place up to two kg of items in your corpse/cairn, as well as a screenshot and a short note. Naturally if an Interloper player finds rifles and ammo in a corpse/cairn early game, then that would be unbalanced, so the game would filter out from the mix any corpses/cairns that have weapons that cannot spawn in your difficulty. But I’m not gonna lie, the effort to find these corpses/cairns would probably be excuse enough to let, say, climbing socks or a balaclava spawn in them.
  9. This is moreso an idea, i don't actually expect hinterland to do this, although it would make me pretty happy haha So, what if we could choose different voices for our survivor instead of just astrid and mackenzies voice? [Example: have the survivor have the same voice as heller, vachon, or molly, ect. ect.] And maybe be able to change the model according to the voice selected as hearing Mackenzie or astrid with another characters voice would sound a bit off You could also have unique dialogue as well according to the character/voice chosen to fit the personality? Just a thought i had What do you guys think? [The changing models and specific dialogue to fit with the characters personality isn't required in this idea by the way! I just thought it would be nice]
  10. It's been unclear to me for a while now--in the opening sequence of EP 1, as Will and Astrid talk about the past, Will says "I miss him too." In another episode I cannot remember for the life of me, she is on the phone in her office, and she looks at a photo of her and Will that seems to have a child in the foreground. I apologize for the lack of references--the youtube link uploads are hellish on this site. The first reference is in the beginning of episode 1, and I can't find the second ref anywhere. DO they have a kid? And if so, what happened to him? Theories and further references appreciated!
  11. So what do you guys think? Is TLD a horror game?
  12. I've been running some experiments (another post coming later) on fishing, and, perhaps I've never paid attention to this before, but the fish I'm catching range in condition from 91-100% Why would I catch any fish that wouldn't be 100%? It hasn't started decaying yet. Perhaps it is slightly bruised/damaged? Thoughts?
  13. I was thinking that the technical backpack should add an additional 2 accessory slots for gear and cargo items (such as the satchel and rifle scabbard). It makes sense to me... Good hiking packs are designed to have other gear items attached to them. This would free up the 2 slots we currently have for clothing items. But one would only get these 2 extra slots after finding the technical pack.
  14. So, I think it would be great if there were some more feats centered around revamping health regen and fire burn time/bonus. Was thinking, what if you could only regenerate health when next to a fire and even further, what if you could only regenerate health for the length of time you had acquired of a burn bonus? So, if it is warm outside you would acquire less burn bonus time and therefore would have to place more fuel on the fire in order to aquire the full hour or more. It sounds convoluted, but I am certain somebody at Hinterland understands what I am suggesting. There could be a second feat meant to make it even more difficult, by halfing all time put on by burnables, or maybe only targeting certain fuel sources like coal and sticks. Thoughts?
  15. Was thinking about the trader that is meant to be coming and where they might be? If it will be an actual NPC or if it would be just a place where someone leaves help notices i.e I need venison I’ll trade for some flour etc please leave the venison at the signal tower near the fire barrel in two days. Etc etc. I’m looking forward to it. Thoughts my fellow survivors?
  16. This suggestion popped into my head for no reason last night while I was sleeping… I literally dreamt (dreamed 🤷‍♂️?) something along these lines. It did not go well, to put it mildly. What is this suggestion, you ask? Harbinger Difficulty “It’s not just that you’re not part of Nature’s plan. You are an annoying stain that she is trying to wring out of a dishcloth.” Starting Gear: None. No clothes, no can, no nothing. Loot Distribution: 10 packs of matches in the world, maximum. Aside from that, no more than a dozen man made items (food, clothing, meds, etc.) will spawn per region. There will be ONE bedroll, ONE lantern, ONE cooking pot, ONE heavy hammer, ONE prybar, ONE hacksaw, ONE mag lens, ONE firestriker, and ONE toolbox spawning across the entire world. Natural Resources: Each rose hip bush, acorn patch, reishi mushroom, piece of birch bark, and cattail has a 1/10 chance of spawning. Sticks, branches, limbs, and stones with also be cut by at least half. Each sapling has a 1/6 chance of spawning. Wildlife: Deer spawn with the rarity of moose. Each rabbit grove will have one rabbit. Replace all normal wolves with Timberwolves, which will be everywhere, with aggression, damage, and spotting range even higher than the maximum the settings currently allow. There will always be an aurora-juiced bear on the map you are in. Not just any bear… the Old Bear. Fishing effectiveness is drastically decreased. Weather: Blizzards and fog all day, every day. Temperatures never rise above -20C. The only time you will get clear skies is with -50C windchill. At night. During an aurora. Oh, and did I mention the glimmer fog? Enjoy . Stats: All meters drain at one arrow above normal (so four-arrows down cold is a possibility). Condition damage due to hunger, thirst, cold, and fatigue is doubled or even tripled. Hypothermia pretty means death in a few seconds. A full 10 hours sleep is impossible because of the accelerated hunger and thirst, so the most condition you can get back per night is about 10%. No condition recovery while awake.
  17. So I'm really enjoying the new fishing mechanics, I'm finding that it really opens up the number of possible base locations. I'm currently camped out in the lake cave on Monolith Lake in HRV. I run a 2 tip-up string of fishing holes, hunt ptarmigan and rabbits with FHAs. It also has the moose spawn on the lake. Ive camped out here in the past, but I findbit more enjoyable now as I dont have to search so far from the cave to find enough food to survive long term. As fate would have it, the ability to fish here likely saved my life... I arrived to the cave just after dark and inadvertently disturbed the moose and got my ass stomped. So its been a saving grace to be able to get food literally on my door step. This has officially become my longest lasting run since I started playing TLD when it released on Xbox. I'm currently at about 120 days on vanilla Stalker. Ive also completed SV for the first time on this run. Anyone else found some new places to set up camp long term that the new fishing mechanic makes more survivable than previously?
  18. Seeing as I could not hope to survive against the wolves in Pleasant Valley long enough for me actually find food and a weapon to defend myself with -- not with all the wolves and the bears around, and without the aforementioned food -- I set about to leave the idyllic looking but homicidal scene. I planned to take the mining tunnel to Coastal Highway, as I had been there before plenty of times. I headed out, leaving the tiny little village behind, hungry and cold, but happy that I had at least found shelter and clothes there. The mining tunnel was nearby, so I thought I'd make it in no time and with little trouble. But I went slightly the wrong way and found myself between a bear sniffling my scent and a wolf blocking my way to where I needed to go. I evaded the bear but caught the wolf's attention. I ran. I ran uphill. The wolf followed, growling and relentless. But I persisted and did make it to the top, to the tunnel entrance before the wolf reached me. In broad daylight, the tunnel had just enough light for me to walk carefully through. The cold receded, but would return, I knew that. The hunger stayed. Once out of the tunnel I risked a steep descent downwards towards the road and towards the small fishing settlements scattered along it. I ended up at the barrack, but found nothing useful. The other standing buildings were nailed shut. Hunger driving me, I headed for the fishing hut. Still nothing. My vision began to blur. The cold was ravaging but the hunger even more so. Desperate, I ran, stumbling and swaying, to the small island and towards the cabin there, hoping. I must have found something there, as I did not wake up dead in the bed I had collapsed on to. My head was still swimming and my stomach was eating itself, but I was still alive. I decided I'd fight. I'd heard the wolves, seen the bear near the island. They might take me if starvation didn't, but I needed to fight. I don't know why. Some instinct probably. I walked to the next fishing hut. I think there was nothing there, so I continued towards the town on the other side of the ice. The northern lights seemed even more colorful, dancing in the sky just as the shoreline was dancing in my eyes. I ran. I got to the first building and found a chocolate bar. I left and ran to the gas station. I found coffee and proceeded to make many cups worth of it and drinking all but one of them. Literally living by the power of coffee! By then I was tired as well and had to sleep. It cleared my head enough for me to find scrap metal and dried guts. I could make a fishing tackle! I was nearly halfway back to the fishing hut when I remembered that while I could make the fishing tackle wherever, I did need a workbench to make the hooks and the lines. Turned back biting back curses and went to make them. Attempt number 2, I reached the fishing up just when my vision began to technicolor again. Set up the oven, cracked the ice with my crowbar, and fished. And ate. And fished. I was still in bad shape but I wasn't hungry, tired, cold or thirsty anymore (though had almost 7 litres of water at the time, so I'd be just stupid if I'd been thirsty). With one cooked fish and two uncooked ones, I started to walk back to the gas station, finally breathing more easily, as I would have a couple days now to recover my strength before I'd need to get back out and find food. Then a wolf attacked and killed me instantly
  19. Hello fellow Explorers I was thinking about Glimmer Fog. Is that stuff real? In some posts around here and elsewhere it was declared to be somewhat gimmicky and yes, it kinda felt like magic at first, uhm, glimmer. 🙃 But this is TLD, it never went to far with gamey magic, right? So I thought about it and remembered that there is a phenomenon called St Elmo's fire. And I'd like to share my findings (from Wikipedia 🤓 ). Since I feel that Glimmer Fog certainly feels at least inspired by it. During a St. Elmos fire luminous plasma is created by a corona discharge. Some weird corona stuff is happening for sure in our little Great Bear World. As I understand it, this plasma requires some kind of spire, a ships prow or wings of air planes (which we ave quite a few in FA tbf) to form around. It's said to be a blue or violet glow around said spire, that often comes with buzzing sound. It's more like on steroids in TLD, since it's, well, everywhere, but besides that, the description kinda fits. What do you think?
  20. 🍕 What is favorite type of pizza topping 🍕 yes the spoiler tag was intentional
  21. Apart from just using the Survival Sandbox and giving ourselves our own personal challenges, goals, and other "house-rules"... We can also subvert existing challenges in order to essentially create more challenges ourselves. Those challenges that have victory conditions and essentially no time-limiting factor, I think have some interesting potential. A couple of examples to start off with: The Whiteout Challenge... Never "complete" the challenge. Once the "big one" hits, how long can you survive and how many regions can you manage to explore while the perpetual blizzard rages? The Hunted, pt.1... Avoid going to Jeremiah's Cabin (Trapper's Homestead). How long you can survive and how many regions can you manage to explore, while having the Demon Bear relentlessly hunting you down? I've always loved how powerful player choice is for The Long Dark. We can have the ability to rather drastically change our player experience simply in choosing to change the way we play.
  22. Now that the wiki says what the new ones do what’s everyone’s favorite rifle bow or revolver? (mines 100% curators rifle just cause it looks so god damn cool)
  23. So could it be? First ever NPC in survival? I admit sometimes it does feel a bit lonely, to see another human would be mind blowing! Could it be Methuselah?? What do you guys think?
  24. I'm going to try my best to summarize issues I've personally had as well as some general thoughts: Non-renewable cooking ingredients - I'm hoping this will be addressed in the future No radial slot for bear-skin, insulated bedroll or skillet - HL has partially acknowledged this Tip-ups seem to break game - The one time I used a tip-up was on an existing game. I entered a building, rested and was unable to exit. Ptarmigans don’t seem to appear on older saves Fishing not working (fished for 12 hours, in 1-hour increments at level 5 fishing with and without a lure and caught zero fish) J key brings up a garbled menu Suggestions: If possible, make regular backups of your saves Avoid fishing of any kind Thoughts: I have to be honest and say I'm somewhat disappointed in the volume of issues. As others, I was extremely excited to play the update, and took the day off work to do so, but as I played, I became disillusioned. I have learned to work around/avoid/ignore the issues as much as possible so that I may continue playing. In fact, as much as I prefer to play my older saves, I am starting a new game while these issues are resolved. Hinterland, I look forward to your resolution of these issues so that we can, unimpeded, enjoy this marvelous game.
  25. Today I noticed that the improved firestarting is no longer listed among the upcoming features of the tales from the far territory. Is it really no longer a part of the roadmap? Because it would be kinda unfortunate that a feature so promising was abandoned because of the time constraints. I don't even know how it was supposed to be improved, but I still feel like I missed out on a better core system.
