  1. Ok, so now I'm going to have to dig through my basement in hopes of finding a photo album from 1967 to see if Babe had balls then.
  2. The name of that town rang a very faint bell for some reason, so I googled it. Sure enough, I was there some 50 years ago and posed for a shot under one of the kitchiest roadside attactions ever...
  3. S.M. Stirling's Emberverse series has one as I recall, and as the premise ( other than that firearms, matches and kerosene work in our world) is about the same.
  4. Not really a survival story as I died, but what a dozy way to do it. Made it to the summit on TWM and was busy looting the tail section, and transporting it back to the other side to start bringing it down to the next level. My energy stat was just into the tired section and I had the bright thought, " Mox Nixs, climbing down the rope doesn't require as much energy as climbing up. So I grab the rope and start down, opps... red stamina line with an x, not good. So I think ok, we'll just stop at the ledge and have a couple hours zizz. No problem. Get off onto the ledge, and immediately hit the "S" key, walking backwards off the edge and thunder into the depths... Pure Hubris and greed on my part.
  5. This. There is a reason why a pack of cards is included in RCAF survival packs.
  6. From Prince George, British Columbia originally, but now live in Baden, Germany.
  7. Just was thinking about this, and given the choice of the only gun to have in a survival situation, I'd go with a .22 bolt action or semi auto with a 4X scope. You can carry a whack of ammo, and it will put down all small game and birds. Also while I wouldn't do it in a sporting hunt, it will take down a deer or a wolf if you are a good shot. Bears would be better left alone though...
  8. You should be able to shoot through a chain link fence, but to be realistic there should be a chance of the bullet or arrow being deflected by it. OK, granted the .303 round will likely chug through without any great effect on it's trajectory (unlike a lighter round such as the .22 or 5.56), but the arrow would be knocked right off course if it grazed the fence.
  9. Living in Germany, none at the moment (other than a .177 pellet gun which I use to put the fear of God into the sparrows who seem to think that I am growing lettuce just for them), back in Canada, a Parker Hale .303 British Nr. 4 rifle which had been sporterised, and a stock SMLE Nr1 MkIII, along with a 20 gauge shotgun and a .22 semi-auto rifle. I hunted everything from Snowshoe Hare to Moose. as well as grouse and waterfowl.
