The Long Dark Sandbox **May 2017 Test Branch** [OPT-IN, FORUM PASSWORD, SPOILERS]   05/19/2017

      Hello community,

As we did with the December 2016 Sandbox Update, we are implementing a TEST BRANCH for The Long Dark's MAY/JUNE 2017 Update, FAITHFUL CARTOGRAPHER. This reflects the fact that we have a huge diversity of players on a variety of hardware configurations, and as a small studio we just can’t test them all!

The idea here is to provide an early version of the next update, about a week or so before we’d like to launch it officially in the Release branch (i.e. where you are currently getting it), so that we get some extra time to find bugs, crashes, and any other issues before it goes lives for the rest of our community.
        >>> IF YOU DO NOT OPT-IN TO THE TEST BRANCH, YOU WILL NOT GET IT. I.e. You will not get the Test Branch build "by accident". This should help keep spoilers to a minimum. Here on Official Forums the Test Branch Discussion subforum requires a password to access. The password is: test_branch
      Some details. READ THESE CAREFULLY:

      * The Test Branch is for STEAM ONLY. It is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
      * The Test Branch is full of SPOILERS. If you don’t want to see what’s in the next update, stay out of the Test Branch and all its discussions.
      * The Test Branch is a tool for us to find issues with Work In Progress features. We’re primarily looking for feedback on bugs, crashes, and any major balancing issues.
      * When reporting on bugs or issues, please use the appropriate TEST BRANCH sub-forums on Steam and in our Official Community. DO NOT DISCUSS TEST BRANCH FEATURES outside the Test Branch sub-forums. Those posts will be moved or deleted.
      * When reporting on bugs or issues, please use the posted bug submission procedures. This will help the development team filter the feedback, eliminate duplicates, and in general ensure we can act on the feedback in a more timely fashion.

Our hope is that this new Test Branch process will allow us to ensure we can continue to put out stable Sandbox updates well into the future.

We’re very hopeful that the people who choose to opt-in to this Test Branch will approach this as a way to help ensure the updates are as smooth and stable as possible, and not use the Test Branch discussion as a forum to lobby for or against certain features or content.

As always, The Long Dark is a community-informed, not community-driven, project. We look forward to enlisting your help in identifying whatever issues we’ve missed in our own internal testing!

For more details, please check out the TEST BRANCH discussion forums [SPOILERS!] http://hinterlandforums.com/index.php?/forum/81-test-branch-spoilers/ (See password info above for access)

      Thank you!

  1. I find myself using Quonset more than I might otherwise prefer due to its central location and proximity to all the other zones.
  2. I'm not sure if the flare gun shells disappearing are being hidden under the snow...the same thing happened to me, but it seemed like they just changed from a stack of 8 to a stack of 1 when I dropped them.. could be wrong
  3. I feel like it signals their arrival to an area, but not sure at all..
  4. Just lost 7 of 8 flare gun shells on my way down the ropes from the peak on interloper...dropped all my stuff on the ground to go back up to the indoor cave to get other stuff and only one shell was there when I got back. Sucks to lose those!
  5. Interesting that DP got the fewest votes...I guess I can understand that. It has some of the most interesting buildings in the game (stone church, lighthouse, whale processing), but it doesn't really have any good base or place I have ever felt comfortable calling home.
  6. Do any of the boxes at the cargo container locations in Timberwolf Mountain have loot in them besides the ones at the peak? (interloper)
  7. This guy gets it
  8. I strongly feel that the devs should consider adding tauntauns for us to ride in the game. It's totally unrealistic that there are no tauntauns at all in such a wintery environment. Winter and snow are always associated with tauntauns, plus it would help us to move all of our supplies between zones, especially considering the harsh weight limitations and overburdening that we are experiencing. Even in interloper, there is way too much junk to carry. Having a tauntaun would make it easier and way more fun to run around the maps and still be able to carry 20kg of water and 3 hammers with me at all times. Also we could kill the tauntaun and sleep inside it, or eat it for extra meat and craft a tauntaun cape. The tauntaun could fight off wolves with its large talons and provide companionship (considering we don't even have any dogs in this totally unrealistic game). There should also be a rare spawn wampa living in the cave on Timberwolf Mountain. Or they could just add a new zone called "Hoth" and just have everything cool in that one zone. P.S. also needs more wendigos
  9. Bees are a good idea for when they add more seasons.
  10. I agree with mysifeid's suggestion to try and harvest the deer carcasses in DP. I usually go for matches and then harvest the deer in Katie's Quiet Corner right away. Sometimes I'll also try for the carcass down by the bear bridge, but you have to crawl around the bear to get it. I don't think many other carcasses spawn in DP in interloper usually, except the one in the cave. If you really want some serious food right away, try chasing a deer out onto the little bay area running from the direction of the blocked highway, through the gap in the rocks where the deer hang out. Usually a wolf will pick one up on the lake. Lure the wolf off and run into the car by the lighthouse. If you get lucky with no blizzard you can get some quick meat. This might take a few tries.
  11. Neat video
  12. Enjoy your new life in the ravine.
  13. My assumption since the beginning was the main character crashed in his own smaller plane. There would be many planes coming down everywhere due to the electromagnetic event. It's easier to survive a crash in a small plane than in an airliner, although there was that one case years ago where a stewardess fell out of a plane that broke up at altitude and survived by landing in a snow drift.
  14. I spent many hours just starting fires and got over half way, but all my badge progress was deleted back in the Halloween event... let's just say I won't be doing that again haha
  15. Is this definitely true? I was also told Fluffy doesn't spawn on Interloper, but I determined that to be a lie.
