Steadfast Interloper

The Steadfast Ranger has brought new items and new mechanics.  My interloper run has gotten much easier than before.  The Birch Bark Tea with its warming has greatly improved the range of my character.  The BBT is a renewable resource and makes travelling easier and affordable.  The wraps for hands and head also make it much easier reducing the chance of frostbite.  The bunny gloves and hat are much better items to craft anyways and during my current interloper run never crafted either wrap.  Sprains now can be healed with bandage instead of painkillers or rosehip tea. For interlopers finding bandage or cloth is much more abundant than the painkillers.  Interloper has gotten much easier since the recent updates.

There needs to be a more difficult choice for experienced interlopers.  Replace current Interloper with a new Ranger class and make Interloper more difficult.

This is a wish list to make Interloper a more demanding option.

Most of the custom settings should be tuned to provide a more difficult interloper experience.

Here are some suggestions that go beyond what can be done in the custom settings:

  • Bow or Flare Gun cannot be used with mittens. Need fingers to pull trigger or notch an arrow.  This gives Driving Gloves or Hand Wraps a purpose in life.
  • Climbing Mountaineering Ropes cannot be done wearing mittens or heavy boots or heavy clothing.  Dexterity is required and clothing gets in the way.
  • Starvation causes Pain and Headaches.  Common interloper practice is eat enough to have ten hour rest and most health loss is recovered.  Starve (eat less than 2000 calories) for more than a day and chance of Pain and Headache.
  • Work while Starving inflicts damage.  Any task that takes calories and you have none results in extra damage to health.  Chance of Pain infliction
  • Work while Dehydrated.  Any task that takes calories and you are dehydrated results in extra damage to health.  Chance of headache infliction.
  • Consuming food takes time to process.  Consume food or water and somehow the weight magically disappears.  This is some kind of trick.  Have the weight remain for a few hours after consumption.
  • Harvesting carcass by hand at level one skill is not possible.  Whole skinned gutted rabbit can be cooked.
  • Increase Hacksaw wear down per use.
  • Tool condition determines chance of break while using.
  • Food condition indicates percent of edible calories.  Fifty percent condition food has half the total calories, twenty five percent has a quarter of the total calories.
  • Ruined food is ruined and inedible even after cooking.
  • Four Stones are required to make a campfire with a cooking slot.  No stones for the campfire equals no cooking slots.  Warming food beside the fire is still possible.  Eight are required for double wide cooking.

Anybody else have ideas to make interloper challenging again.

Randomize the loot tables such that interlopers who have essentially memorized where key items may be found are forced to genuinely search for those items again and remove all "guaranteed" spawns of all items, including matches.

I would agree with this...the reason why some interlopers find it easy is because they know the loot tables and know where everything is... this way it would be as hard as it is for those of us who can't remember where things are...

Most of those things you mention easily boil down to player choice - as in you can just choose to play that way and not take advantage of items or circumstances that you view to be too easy.

Instead of changing the game, we can just change the way we play it. :)

1. If you can set every detail, game becomes predictable. Zero challenge. Leads to point No. 3.

2. Int good idea some gameplay suggestions apply in Interloper only. It will mislead other player. Game mechanics should be consistent for all modes.

3. I think that Interloper needs more variety in spawn. That's all. Even for tools and their repairing items, which are spawned without any variety.. More randomness means more non predictable gameplay, which is fun and challenge.
