Randomly dropping items?

Lately, I've been noticing items I previously had just sitting on the ground, such as a cooked piece of rabbit meat by a deer carcass I was harvesting earlier or some herbal tea I found sitting by a fire barrel I was sitting at.

Just now, I went to cut down some birch saplings and my hacksaw was magically gone.

Has anyone else been experiencing this?

The only time I have had items to drop is after being attacked by a Bear, but other than that I don't believe I have had any items to drop or disappear.

When I go to the inventory intending to drop something, I often click the drop button too soon and drop the object that is at the top of the inventory and not the object that I want to drop. Could this be your [problem?

I suspect that there is a bit of a lag in the selection procedure, such that the object that I wanted to select has not been fully selected by the software, before I hit the drop button.  Alternatively, perhaps I'm just careless.
