Cowichan vs Fisherman's sweater?

Fisherman's has better warmth to weight ratio, Cowichan get's style points. 

Wool shirt is also fine for inner layer, btw...  What combo would you pick?

*If* I find a Cowichan I can't let it pass :(

It comes down to what it is best for. Each piece of clothing has its uses

Wanna spend a lot of time outside in cold temperatures? Cowichan is the best choice.

Wanna get a decent temp resistance but remain very light? Take the thin wool sweater.

Wanna generally best combination between those two? Go with the Fisherman´s.

Ironically, Cowichan is the best choice for ice fishing, by that definition. Fishermans is the best for general use.

I usually stick with double Fisherman.  I stick with the lighter gear as much as possible simply because I like to run everywhere.
