Unable to access crafting in Survival game

In my current survival game there is no crafting. I'm on Xbox one, clicking on the icon at top for crafting the screen goes blurry, same clicking on workbench, blurry screen no blueprints. I have materials for fish hooks, snares, medicinal teas but nothing shows up as blueprints. My previous sandbox game was fine. Is there a book I need to find/research?
