Upvote vs. Like

Sorry if this has already been answered somewhere but I haven't been able to find anything about it.

Posts can be "Upvoted" or "Liked".  What is the difference between choosing "Like" or "Upvote"?

Not sure, but it seems like "Like" just marks a post as, well... liked. Without adding to the poster's total repudiation count.

"Upvote" seems to indicate the post was liked and given a "+1" type of mark, and also increases the poster's total reputation.

Not sure what relevance either has, or what relevance our total reputation has, other than ego feeding or fluffing?

(Not meant to offend, just not sure why being upvoted on forums or social media is such a big thing, even though we all seem to play into it and do it?)

Thanks, @ThePancakeLady, and I agree.  I didn't think about the tie to the "reputation" number, but I see that now.  I upvoted your reply and I see your reputation number has increased - I hope that makes your day better, lol.
