Can I start a new game on Survivor but keep my current one?

The title pretty much sums it up.  I'm about 150 days into my Survivor game on Voyager and happily surviving at Desolation Point.  But, there's so much I haven't seen.  I've never been to Pleasant Valley, Timberwolf Mountain, or the new map.  I thought of moving out of the Riken, but things are going so well here.

So, can I keep that saved game but start a new one where I can go to these exotic locales?  I don't dare try and see, and risk losing my current playthrough.

You can keep 20+ saves at once, you can start over with no fear of losing your last run.
