Khan_Drichthyes 148 Posted May 22, 2018 Two different snow shelters I've made. I wish I could claim not needing sticks, but the 2nd one needed a little reinforcement. The 1st one was with a small cooler as the brick mold and the 2nd with 5 gallon buckets.
Patrick Carlson 1,162 Posted May 22, 2018 Nice work! The one with the stove must have been especially useful!
Doc Gonzo 119 Posted May 22, 2018 That's pretty awesome ...
Khan_Drichthyes 148 Posted May 22, 2018 From the side, the 2nd one looks like it was made of giant marshmallows. In painkiller induced delusions, Will would probably literally try to eat himself out of house and home. And yeah, with a decent fire, it was pretty good. -Naturally, with a hole to vent the smoke. Ruruwawa 1,137 Posted May 23, 2018 Very nice! Back in college (on Wisconsin!) I traveled with the camping club on skis to remote campsite in winter. Our tool: a machete. We had deep snow so we trod down a big area to compress it and quarried our blocks from that. Our shelters were quite comfortable, even with just backpacking stoves. And no cloth or sticks used for us either, just snow.
Khan_Drichthyes 148 Posted May 23, 2018 Yeah, I can see Wisconsin getting deeper snow than North Carolina.
LeeHarveyOslik 67 Posted January 27 Building a snow shelter (no cloth needed indeed). No fire, no bearskin coat, up to -30 oC at night. Russian language.
