Phone in the hunting lodge

When I entered into the basement of the hunting lodge used by the Forest talkers in EP 2, I heard a phone start ringing but by the time I found it by the door, it had stopped ringing, and it did not have an action menu icon. It never rang again. Has anyone else experienced this?

That phone doesn't have a handset. Even if there was a way to "pick-up" or accept the connection, there wouldn't be anything for the call to connect to.

Later the trapper mentions following the lines to see who was calling and the older phone systems coming to life during the aurora. I haven't figured this part out yet.

Jeremiah says we need a old phone company line map to find out where the call came from, he says it must be archives somewhere with question mark and Mackenzie says i'll keep it in mind.

I haven't found any archives or map so far, but i will keep it in mind like Mackenzie said.

I believe it is the same forest talker that fires the gunshots at mystery lake. The reason why I say this that the forest talkers probably had their own phone line, the lodge being owned by the forest talker would make sense for it to be called.

It’s explained in episode 3 by Molly. The island uses a party line like they had in the 40’s and 50’s.  All phones on the island ring at the same time when a call is being made.  Pay attention to Molly’s response when Astrid asks her how she knew Astrid was at the community hall...
